Once again, around a thousand participants will speed down the mountain from an altitude of 3,600 m a.s.l. to the finish line at 1,800 m a.s.l. a thrilling 9 km descent that will test participants to the limit.
The Allalin Races in Saas-Fee have been considered one of the top four amateur downhill races in Switzerland, the “Super Vier”, for more than a quarter of a century. Each year the races attracts many different participants, from ambitious amateur racers to winter-sports fans who join in simply for the fun of taking part.
This year the party will take place in a newly designed venue with a huge party tent and a variety of food and drink stands. There’ll also be live music from various bands who will keep the party pumping a full 12 hours.
Another exciting development for the 2011 races is that international ski star Silvan Zurbriggen is now the event’s patron. He’ll be attending on Saturday 2 April to compete in the morning’s race and will then stay around to speak to fans in the afternoon.
