Iron Man challenge | September 2011

News — By Chris Southwell on September 8, 2011 at 4:23 pm

Well it’s been a long and fun summer. Since my last blog I went over to Klosters in Switzerland for a bit of mountain training. My girlfriend Anna went with me and we had a great 6 days. We spent a lot of time walking and even though the weather was mediocre we still had a great time. If you have never been to the mountains in the summer I suggest you head over, as there is so much to do. I even had time for a quick round of golf, which was a huge flop save my eagle on a par 5. All in all it was a great week and got me so excited about the winter, I can’t wait for the snow!

Back in Sweden

Back in Sweden, I’m loving my new Giant bike. Life training for an Iron Man is hard work. It takes a lot out of you and sometimes it can be hard to keep the motivation going. I have found a great running track with an outdoor gym so I spend a lot of time there and each week I am always on the hunt for new bike tracks. Fair to say my bum is holding up well with all the time that I have spent in the saddle!

Swimming and Diet

The only hard, and I mean really hard event for me, at the minute is swimming. I am not a great swimmer so it’s been tough in the lake but I am getting there. I just have to watch out for my shoulder but it is holding out most of the time. Training and my diabetics have not been too bad. I am eating well, 3 big meals a day and I am using dextrose energy drink which is perfect as I mix it with water and it works well in keeping my sugars stable and keeping me going. The only time I have problems is after training when my sugars can be too high then they quickly drop but like I always say, as long as you keep an eye on everything and are sensible then you can do what you want.

Well I have a little over 3 months before Mexico, I can’t wait for the challenge but I am also so excited about it all being over as then I have the snowy season to look forward to.
