Want a more adventurous family holiday?

News — By OAGmag on December 29, 2011 at 2:53 pm

A two day canoe trip down the Ardèche river, a night around the campfire sleeping under the stars followed by raft building and mountain biking all included in a 6-night adventure. Sounds good? PGL have introduced this and four other trips as being ‘altogether more adventurous’.

The Classic Ardèche Adventure

Based at Lou Valagran, one of PGL’s own centres in France, the focus of the six-night holiday is the two-day descent of the Ardèche river, paddling through one of France’s most spectacular gorges in Canadian canoes, passing under the natural stone arch at Vallon Pont d’Arc and tackling the rapids.

The overnight bivouac is at the end of the first day, when children and parents enjoy an evening round the campfire before sleeping under the stars beside the river. Other activities that make the most of the location, such as mountain biking and raft-building, are offered on three other days and there’s a free day for exploring – or relaxing – as a family.

The holiday is suitable for families with children aged seven and up, with prices starting from £335 per adult and £275 per child (up to and including 18 years) when sharing a four-bedded family cabin which has access to shower and WC blocks, as well as central eating and recreational areas. This is outstanding value for a holiday that not only includes full board but all activities, tuition, equipment and evening fun.

There are two dates, Monday 6 and 20 August, allowing families two days to drive to the south of France (about nine hours from Calais: ferry travel not included).

Other family adventures in the new brochure include a seven-night holiday in Normandy at PGL’s own château (from £1,428 for a family of four), a week in the Dordogne based at the company’s own private ‘village’ (from £1,776 for a family of four) and a range of two-night, three-night, four-night and seven-night multi-activity holidays in the UK at Easter, Half Term and in the Summer, starting from £468 for a family of four.
