North York Moors turns 60 in style
News — By Outdoor Adventure Guide on January 30, 2012 at 1:06 pmForget about the Queen Diamond Jubilee, its all about Yorkshire this year as the North York Moors National Park marks its 60th Anniversary.
The North York Moors became the UK’s 6thnational park back in November 1952, and while there won’t be a concert in its honour, a flotilla down the Thames or even a street party, 2012 really is the year to visit the North York Moors with plenty of more humbly sized events lined up for visitors and locals alike.
If you’re into your art, head to Danby between the 13th May and the 17th July, where a free exhibition entitled “Inspired Landscape” where local artists including Peter Hicks and Len Taabner will be showing their York Moor inspired work. The Inspired by… Gallery will then exhibit 60 up and coming artists works from the 21st July to 19th August. There’s also a moorland festival featuring everything North Moors e on the 29th July at the Sutton Bank National Park Centre and Yorkshire Dance will be performing around the Moors in throughout July and August. .
Oh, and of course there’s the 1,400 miles of paths to explore, providing cycling, horse-riding and walking a-plenty. OAG Editor Tracey Radnall is a die-hard Moors fan; “There’s fabulous little pub on a great walk called the Birch Hall Inn (in Beck Hole) near the Mallyan Spout Waterfall – it’s a really classic for hikers.” What better way to celebrate the birthday of our favourite National Park.
