Records galore as naked rower conquers Atlantic
News, Paddle — By Admin on January 16, 2012 at 3:09 pmAfter two months of rowing the high seas, endless blisters and dehydrated meals, ”the worlds toughest rowing race”; the Atlantic challenge, has been won by two bankers in their forties, while a solo naked rower has come in second.
Toby Iles, 44 and Nick Moore, 40 completed the 3,000 mile row from the Canary Islands to Barbados late last night in their boat Box Number 8 after rowing twelve hours each for the last 40 days.
They fought off 26-year-old Andrew Brown from Surrey who came in a very close second, breaking the record for the fastest solo row – not bad for a man who rows in the buff!
More records followed this morning as The Atlantic 4, a group of students from Loughborough Uni came third, making them the youngest crew to complete the arduous crossing, as well as the first twins to row the Atlantic.
Row for Freedom, who we featured back in November, are due to land later today and will become the first all-female crew to make the crossing.
If you fancy rowing 12 hours a day, guzzling 8,000 calories every 24 hours, sleeping in two hour shifts, salt rash and Atlantic winds then there’s always next year…
