Walking Boots: Merrel Chameleon Arc 2 Rival
Footwear, Gear — By Outdoor Adventure Guide on October 19, 2012 at 4:35 pmI tested these completing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge - a 12 hour hike where you conquer three mountains. I needed shoes that were stable, able to withstand that grim Yorkshire rain and left me nimble footed while scrambling rocks, and the Chameleon Arc 2s were just the ticket.
The combination of the Eva foot frame and the air-cushioned left my feet and feeling not only comfy but well supported too, easily withstanding the harsh impacts I put them thorugh. They also feature Merrel Q-form comfort mid-sole, which is female specific and added to the overall ergonomic feel.
It’s lighter than other boots I’ve tried, which after 12 hours I was grateful for! But it does not comprimise when it comes to grip - at one point we had to scramble up some fairly shear looking rock faces, but my feet didn’t feel too clunky and gripped to the surface no problem. I felt almost mountain goat-like!
Where these really came into their own though, was there waterproofness. Made with Nubeck and full-grain leather, and a impermeable but waterproof membrane, these kept evry drop of moisture out, while wicking away my own sweat super-fast. At one stage, we walked through an almost bog-like field and I feared for the worst. But I came out dry! Fantastic.
One thing I will say is wear them in thoroughly and gradually - they take a while to get used to.
Merrel have also just launched The Norsehund Alpha Waterproof, a tall winter boot with a TPU shelled upper for durability and protection and the Norsehund Omega Mid Waterproof, providing 200 grams of Merrell Opti-warm™ lightweight, low bulk, synthetic insulation keeping you warm in varying conditions. We haven’t had a chance to test them yet, but we’re very excited…

These are nice, thanks for your little review. I am looking for a new hiking boot. I have a narrow foot, I am wondering if these boots fit wide or average? I’ve always had good luck with Merrel’s in general and they sound comfy. Thanks again.
