What: Bike it, ride it, run it, do it with this action-packed outdoor event! A fantastic two-day, adventure-packed weekend at Sheffield’s Millhouses Park, offering everything from orienteering to climbing, along with a good mix of fairground rides, beer tents and… er… bike polo! The festival will also host the 2015 British Bouldering Championships, which might be nearly as tense as the hourly duck races…

Wilderness Gathering

West Knoyle, Wiltshire

What:
Hosted at Bush Farm Bison Centre, the family-friendly Wilderness Gathering is all about bushcraft, survival and primitive living skills. Workshops include friction firelighting, extreme baking, and trap laying, while demos cover everything from wild first aid to axe craft. Don’t miss Saturday’s National Bow Drilling Competition where sparks are sure to fly (sorry).

The Adventure Travel Film Festival

When: 14-16 August

Where: London

What: After a sell-out fest last summer, the ATFF is moving on to a bigger venue: Mill Hill School in London, which offers shower and toilet facilities for campers. The festival mixes films including Nobody’s River and Arctic Air with bushcraft sideshows, campfire cookery and filming workshops. Plus, there’s an Ask the Experts panel hosted by ex OAG editor Hannah Engelkamp.

Raise money for Alzheimer’s at Memory Walk

Where: Nationwide

What: A series of family-friendly walks across the UK all with a common goal: to fight dementia.
If you’re with kids you can opt for a gentle, 2km stroll, or go for the full-on 10km. Entrance is free, though you are encouraged to raise a minimum of £50 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Bogsnorkelling Triathlon

When: 29 August

Where: Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys

What: Not your typical triathlon! This combines an eight-mile run with a 12-mile mountain bike ride and a 120-yard bogsnorkel through the famous Waen Rhydd Bog. There’s also a bite-size version of the Triathlon, comprising of a 3-mile run, a 60-yard bogsnorkel, and a 6-mile mountain bike ride. Entry starts at £12 for individuals and £20 for teams.

What: A weekend of adventurous films, inspirational speakers and outdoor activities in the heart of the Peak District. Last year’s speakers included boulderer Shauna Coxsey, runner Steve Birkinshaw and climber Tim Emmet, and films came from Brit Rock and Adventure Bites. There’s also a chance to skill up at a variety of workshops varying from mountain training to alpine skills.
