This quick and easy recipe is a camping must-know

Don’t settle for stale sandwiches: These tortilla wraps take minutes to throw together, are easy to adapt and taste mighty delicious too, making them a campsite must-try

One of the toughest things about outdoor cooking is…catering for the many, many tastes of your group. So here’s where our toasted wraps come in! Stock up on tortillas and a range of fillings (think quick-cook vegetables, cold cuts, cheeses and lettuce) and let your co-campers do the hard work of compiling their own wraps, which you can just toss on the BBQ or campfire. Simple, quick and relaxed – the way all good camping recipes should be.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of tortillas
  • Cheese (we used goat’s cheese)
  • Pesto
  • Onion
  • Salad leaves such as rocket or spinach
  • Vegetables (mushrooms and tomatoes work well)
  • Ham/salami (optional)

Step 1

Step 1

Prep your ingredients: slice the onions, chop the vegetables, wash the salad and slice the cheese.

Step 2

Step 2

Spread a thin layer of pesto on the top half of a tortilla. Layer your ingredients over the top.

Step 3

Step 3

Fold the tortilla in half to form a semicircle that encases the filling and place on a sheet of aluminium foil.

Step 4

Step 4

Fold the foil around the tortilla, sealing it at the top to create a secure package. Add another layer of foil.

Step 5

Step 5

Place the foil package directly on the embers of your campfire (or on the grate of your BBQ) and leave to cook for about five minutes.

Step 6

Step 6

Remove the package (use tongs) and, once cool enough to handle, open up and tuck in.
