Chamonix isn’t like other trail running destinations

When most people go for a Sunday morning jog they might take the canal path if feeling adventurous. Seb Montaz isn’t most people…

Sébastien Montaz-Rosset is a Chamonix-based film maker and mountain guide. As you might expect from someone brought up among the highest mountains in the Alps, Seb’s typical Sunday morning jog is a little more adventurous than most people’s…

Actually, that’s an understatement: this trail run in the Lac Blanc region (the opposite side of the valley to Mont Blanc and the Aiguille Verte) is downright extreme, including incredible knife edge ridges with sickening drops to the side and glissading/crevasse dodging  on the many snowfields. This isn’t the sort of trail to take to clear your head after a Saturday night in the pub – one miss-step and it’ll be your last Sunday morning – and that’s without considering the 2300+ metre altitude!

Still, Seb’s made of sterner stuff than most – his job often essentially involves somehow keeping one step ahead of ultra-running/ski-mountaineering legend Killian Jornet while lugging camera equipment around.
